Chairwoman's letter:
Dear Members,
Welcome all to our June edition of BAMBI News.
Getting ready for your summer vacations and the rainy season? The Thais divide the year into three seasons: cool season, hot season, and rainy season. For most Westerners, this translates to “hot”, “really hot”, and “really hot and wet”.
Thailand has a tropical climate, so it’s hot and humid all year with temperatures in the 28-35°C range (82-95°F), but if you are a careful
observer, you will note, however, three seasons: cool – from November to the end of February; hot – from March to June; and rainy – from July to October.
So, as soon as the international schools begin closing at the end of June, many of us are preparing to get away from the rainy season. We all talk
about going back home to see our families and friends. This is the time to get busy again with suitcases, tickets, horrible flight experiences, and to live out of a suitcase for weeks or even months. Every year we enjoy the
warmth of the family but, at the same time, it can feel like torture to travel with small kids and try to keep them happy while they are out of their routine.
Of course, we have the option of not traveling abroad and staying in an extra-wet city. The traffic is much better, and you can enjoy an (almost) empty city. It makes me wonder sometimes if we – the parents taking our kids to school – are the ones creating the traffic. It’s funny, in a way.
The Committee slows down at this time too, so be patient with us if your emails are not getting a response immediately.
Be well and don’t get too wet.
