BAMBI March 2012

Dear Readers,

Usually this page is reserved for letters from BAMBI’s Chairwoman or Patron. No, I didn’t ‘steal’ it from them. They just had A LOT to say this month (soon you will understand why – this month is a special one!) and I
decided to dedicate a larger space to their words over the next few pages. So here I am.

Five years ago, when we moved to Bangkok, I took my daughter and husband to BAMBI’s 25th anniversary party and joined up on the spot. It was my first month in Bangkok. I didn’t know much about BAMBI then, but it seemed a good group to join to keep me and my daughter busy. I remember that I thoroughly enjoyed reading the special anniversary issue of BAMBI News that was published back then to mark this event.

Since then, BAMBI has enjoyed five more successful years and I am excited to present you with this special issue of BAMBI News to commemorate BAMBI’s 30th anniversary. It is the result of many hours of
work and research, and although it was not an easy task to sum up 30 years of activity in one issue, it was very fulfilling. We tracked former members and committee members who have been part of BAMBI since its
very first days; some of them have changed their email and home addresses many times over the years, so we had to endure many bounced-back emails and act like detectives, undertaking in-depth searches on the web. My heart missed a beat whenever I received a reply to an email with the answer, ‘Yes, This is me…. I was a BAMBI member in years so and so… .’

We managed to contact one of BAMBI’s founding members; we found the woman who launched Bumps & Babies; we contacted editors from the past, as well as the woman who launched the website; we located the first BAMBI photographer; and many others who are now spread all over the world. Each has her/his unique story to tell from their own BAMBI years.

I flipped through pages and pages of many old copies of the BAMBI Newsletter, which was gradually transformed over the years into BAMBI News magazine. So much has changed in 30 years, and so much
hasn’t. I enjoyed looking back at BAMBI’s history, reading the stories of this amazing group of ladies who have made BAMBI what it is for so many years.

I hope you’ll enjoy reading this special issue as much as I enjoyed working on it.

And one more announcement for the end: After editing this magazine for the past four years, I think it’s about time for me to hand over the baton to someone else. Yes, I’m looking for someone to replace me.
I would like to use this opportunity to invite you to step up and volunteer for this position. Enjoyable and satisfying work is guaranteed (and it’s excellent for your CV!). Please drop me an email if you are interested
in more details.

Happy Birthday,

Ravit El-Bachar Daniel
